The Fannin County Board of Commissioners meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:00 pm in the Jury Assembly Room on the third floor of the courthouse. The BOC is responsible for the administrative functions of the county including the road department, EMA, EMS, Fire, E911, recreation, maintenance, animal control etc. It is the board's responsibility to prepare a budget and to set the counties portion of the milage rate. They also set policy, approve purchases and hear variance requests. The board chairman is a full time position while the two post positions are part time. County government moved into a new 72,000 square foot courthouse in 2004 and leased the former courthouse, built in 1937 and containing 12,000 square feet, to the Arts Association. Fannin County has 360 square miles of territory with almost fifty percent of it being government owned. There are two national forests, a TVA reservoir known as Blue Ridge Lake and many mountain streams. Our major industry is tourism and home building.
