The Fannin County Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection to all of the County. The department also provides rescue services, first responders, rescue specialists, swift water rescue, dive team, mountain wilderness rescue, hazardous material response, and pressurized container response. The fire department is a volunteer department with over one hundred members and a paid fire chief and deputy. It works out of thirteen stations each with a class A pumper and most with an additional tanker. Five stations also contain a rescue truck. The county is classified as an ISO 6/9 for insurance purposes meaning that if the house is within one thousand feet of a pressurize hydrant the rating is a six, if not it is a nine.
