Fannin County Sheriff Dane Kirby

Dane Kirby assumed the office of Sheriff of Fannin County on January 1, 2009.

Prior to attaining that position, he had served in law enforcement for 20 years as a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol, as a deputy sheriff in Gilmer County and as a police officer for the City of Blue Ridge Police Department.

Sheriff Kirby is a member of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association, the National Sheriff’s Association, and an advisory board member of the Zell Miller Parkway Drug Task Force. Sheriff Kirby is a life long resident of Fannin County and a graduate of Fannin County High School.

He is an avid hunter and fisherman. He is a member of Hemptown Baptist Church.

 

The office of Sheriff is defined as a constitutional officer and derives its legal authority from the Constitution and laws of the State of Georgia. The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office has a duty to enforce the laws of Georgia and the ordinances of Fannin County, and to provide for the security, safety and well-being of the citizens. This is accomplished through the delivery of law enforcement services, the operation of the Fannin County Jail and the provision of courthouse and courtroom security.

The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office serves a population of 22,000 citizens in a jurisdictional territory of 386 square miles with 45 full time and part time employees.
